On Saturday, May 10th the Ritz Carlton in Ft. Lauderdale will host 200 very excited, and very special kids, and give them a prom to remember.

"A Prom to Remember is an amazing organization. What we do is create proms for kids who are battling cancer," said Barbara Hoard, Executive Director.

This is “A Prom To Remember’s” 10th year in South Florida, serving children affected by cancer in Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties. And every year the prom’s theme is different. This year, it’s going to be one wild party.

"We want the kids to walk in and be in total amazement, they will have a red carpet to walk on when they first come in. So, they will get out of their limos or buses and they will be cheered on by the hotel guests and employees. Let's be real who wouldn't want to walk down a red carpet," said Hoard.

The children are from ages 12-19, and A Prom To Remember covers a lot of ground finding them and inviting them to share in the joy of the event.

"We work with seven different hospitals across the three different counties, all of our kids are either in the process of battling cancer or maybe just found out they have cancer. We send the invitations to the hospitals and the kids make the decision on whether or not they are going to come to the event," said Hoard.

In order for “A Prom to Remember” to continue to grow, they need your help. And if you’re thinking about donating your time or money, Barbara says it’s a very worthwhile cause.

"I think the whole thing about 'A Prom to Remember' is to make a moment, it's this moment for the kids to show them that it's not about the therapy or the chemo, but it's a moment to remind them that life is still going on. We want these kids to know that we are here and that they matter, and we are really focused on expanding to give these kids a very special event," said Hoard.

“A Prom To Remember” is looking for hair and makeup stylists for their proms. If you are interested, head to their website,, for more information.
